Evaluate 125-year-old heavy timber covered bridge, one of the last still in use in Michigan. Perform structural analysis of timber trusses, develop repair and strengthening recommendations for highway loadings. Address maintenance of concrete abutments and structural steel substructure. Develop plans and specifications for repair.

Perform detailed, hands-on evaluation of historic brick and Lake Superior red sandstone facade. Develop recommendations for restoration. Work with architect to identify sources of replacement stone. Develop details and technical specifications for paint removal, stone removal and replacement, and brick masonry restoration. Analyze interior historic framing and develop designs for modification and strengthening as required. Perform structural engineering for new 4-story office building addition at north side of site. Provide project management and technical assistance during construction phase for paint removal and masonry restoration.

Perform condition audit of 140-year-old masonry passenger depot and freight warehouse buildings. Evaluate masonry facades, wood floor and roof framing, heavy timber trusses and stone foundations. Develop recommendations and cost estimates for structural modifications and repairs, and restoration of the historic exterior. Identify suitable replacement materials for sandstone, historic brick and mortar. Develop plans, details and specifications for masonry restoration, wood framing repairs, timber truss repairs, repair and underpinning of foundations, and new steel framing and concrete foundations for modern structural glass-enclosed winter garden addition. Provide construction phase support to masonry restoration and structural activities.

Develop Construction Documents consistent with Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. Identify suitable mortar materials to match historic masonry. Develop mold drawings for terra cotta replacement. Identify suitable patching and coating materials. Provide construction phase project management and observation.
